Patient waiting

“Do I have a date for my surgery?”

Short answer:  When you sign consent for surgery, you will likely not, get a date for surgery at that time.

Long answer

As of now, the wait for surgery from the time you signed consent is approximately 8 months.  We only get Dr. Cayen’s surgical dates from our administrators about 3 months ahead of time.  That means we can’t give you a date when you sign consent.

Please wait for our office to call you for your surgical date.  Please do not call the office asking for a date, if you do not yet have one.  Don’t worry, we have you on our list, if you signed consent.

If you’ve signed consent without being sure if you want to go ahead with surgery, and you’ve finally decided that you want to proceed, then call the office to be placed on the list.  Dr. Cayen may want to see you again prior to surgery in order to review the risks and benefits of surgery with you.

Please note that once you get called for your surgical date:

  • We will arrange for you to be seen in the pre-admission before your surgery
  • Please let us know if you are feeling unwell prior to your pre-admission clinic appointment.  We will let you recover prior to your surgery and you will NOT go to the back of the line.
  • You will be allowed one visitor to accompany you to your surgery.
  • Knee replacements, hip replacements will be done under a spinal anesthetic, if possible.
  • Expect to leave hospital the same day of surgery.
  • One visitor is allowed on the wards at this time, if you were to be admitted.
